FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The ninth annual Hobnobben Film Festival kicks off and fills the Fort Wayne Cinema Center screens on Thursday.

According to the festival’s website, the event highlights a collage of movies that have been “typically excluded” from theaters which aims to showcase a more diverse representation of actors.

Rachel Hille, the director of the Hobnobben Film Festival, said the handpicking films of various styles, topics and origins allows film lovers and filmmakers to experience new ways of sharing different points of view.

“At Hobnobben, we love the art of storytelling,” Hille said. “Stories matter, you get different perspectives … we love being able to bring a diverse set of independent films to Fort Wayne.”

This year, the Hobnobben Film Festival showcases 141 films. These movies originate from 42 countries and are played in 27 languages with English subtitles.

The Hobnobben Film Festival has over 100 films.

Hille said the kickoff on Thursday night centers around local filmmakers with several short films showcasing an “Indiana-based connection.” Acme will also cater the reception before hand, starting at 6 p.m.

The festival has 32 different blocks, or movie themes, throughout the event. Featured blocks include the Iranian Filmmaker’s Showcase will be featured on Friday and the “This Block is so LGBTQIA+” on Saturday. A local documentary featuring the late 80’s and early 90’s of Fort Wayne will be shown on Sunday.

The Hobnobben Film festival begins on Thursday and continues onto Sunday. Tickets are $15 for the opening night pass, $30 for a single-day pass and $60 for a four-day pass. The festival is held at the Fort Wayne Cinema Center on 437 E. Berry St.

The festival offers virtual screenings until Oct 19, $10 for a block of featured films or $100 for all 141 movies.
