Hobnobben 2023 announces Opening Night lineup, filmmaker workshops, and after-party
OCTOBER 4, 2023, FORT WAYNE, IN – Hobnobben Film Festival, now in its eighth year, has announced a series of special events including opening night festivities, an after-party at JK O’Donnell’s, and filmmaker workshops to take place during the festival running October 19-22.
Opening Night
On Thursday, October 19, the public is invited to attend Hobnobben’s Opening Night, featuring the work of Indiana filmmakers. The evening will start at 6:00 pm with a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres in Cinema Center’s Spectator Lounge, 437 E. Berry St. At 7:00 pm in the Main Theater, Hobnobben will officially get underway with a block of 13 shorts from local and Indiana filmmakers, followed by the feature film Liminal: Indiana in the Anthropocene, which will have a live score performance by Metavari.
Using beautiful drone footage and an original score by Fort Wayne's own Metavari, Liminal is a meditative documentary that showcases the state of Indiana in all its features and forms, illustrating the impact our economy has had on the land. The 13 selected shorts, submitted by a wide range of talented Indiana advanced and student filmmakers, include: FLOWER, Spring Cleaning, Aisle 5, Princess Muffin, It’s Not Goodbye, It Could Be Any One of Us, The Fox’s Wedding, First Date, Troll the Dice, A Quest For Kindness, chrystAlistic, Romanus, and The Deaners of Fairmount.
Awards Ceremony + After Party
On Friday, October 20, the Awards Ceremony will take place in the Main Theater where all of the nominees and the winners will be celebrated. A full list of nominees can be viewed at hobnobben.org. Following the Awards Ceremony, there will be an exclusive screening of Everybody Wants to Be Loved. This captivating feature film from Germany tells the story of psychotherapist Ina, whose world is turned upside down on a scorching summer day.
Also on Friday night, JK O'Donnell's will host an after-party from 7:00 to 11:30 pm in their newly renovated outdoor space, The Pitch. The public is invited to gather with fellow film enthusiasts while enjoying Irish pub fare and refreshing beverages in the beautifully renovated outdoor patio at JK O'Donnell's, 121 W. Wayne St.

The Hobnobben committee has also announced a series of workshops designed to help participants enrich their filmmaking knowledge and make professional connections. Workshops include:
